BRIEF
Deliver long-term protection for ECOTONE applied architecturally finished precast concrete within a major public infrastructure project, while preserving the integrity of culturally significant artwork integrated into the surfaces.
The solution needed to:
- Long-term protection of finished precast concrete surfaces
- Resistance to graffiti, environmental exposure, and surface staining
- Preservation of integrated design detailing and visual consistency
- Reduced ongoing maintenance requirements in a demanding public corridor
MATERIAL & APPLICATION
ECOCLEAN Ultra Graffiti Shield
ECOCLEAN Ultra Graffiti Shield is a high-performance protective coating for precast concrete that forms a durable, hydrophobic, pore-sealing barrier to prevent graffiti adhesion and reduce the ingress of water, paint, and contaminants.
The coating protects finished architectural concrete without altering its natural appearance, while subtly enhancing colour depth with a refined low-sheen finish where applicable.
OUTCOME
ECOCLEAN Ultra Graffiti Shield delivers long-term protection to the completed architectural precast concrete at Arterial Road Queenstown, ensuring durability in a high-traffic civic environment.
The coating exceeds APAS 1441 Appendix A performance requirements and provides a durable anti-graffiti barrier that enables fast, non-abrasive removal of vandalism. Its hydrophobic, pore-sealing properties reduce water ingress and surface contamination, improving cleanability and reducing ongoing maintenance demands.
The result is a resilient, low-maintenance public asset that maintains a consistent architectural appearance while supporting long-term performance in a demanding transport corridor.

The work reflects deep cultural narratives and values, from the representation of whakapapa to the connection with whenua. These elements are embedded not just in the design, but in the spirit of the place.
Together with Cancast Ltd in their workshop, we refined colour palettes, design motifs, and concrete finishes using the ECOTONE Australia & New Zealand Colour Stain system. This project was followed by Consol right through to the final anti-graffiti treatments using ECOCLEAN Ultra Graffiti Shield, working with both Cancast and Kā Huanui a Tāhuna (Whakatipu Transport Programme Alliance). It was a collaboration built on care, creativity, and respect.
