BRIEF
Provide a long-term protective system to preserve restored concrete surfaces, by ECOTONE, and maintain a consistent architectural appearance over time.
The project required:
- Protection of restored concrete from environmental staining and carbonation
- Reduction of black mould, algae, and organic surface growth
- Long-term reduction in maintenance through self-cleaning surface technology
- Preservation of a consistent façade appearance in an exposed urban environment
MATERIAL & APPLICATION
- ECOCLEAN Porosity Sealer
- ECOCLEAN Self-Cleaning Coating
Following surface preparation and completed restoration works, ECOCLEAN Porosity Sealer was applied to stabilise the substrate, followed by the ECOCLEAN Self-Cleaning System as a daylight-activated protective layer. The system is water-based, non-toxic, and suitable for application over restored concrete and architectural finishes.
OUTCOME
The ECOCLEAN system provides long-term protection to the restored concrete façade, improving resistance to staining and biological growth.
A follow-up site inspection conducted in 2025, three years after application, confirmed the system continues to perform strongly, with the photocatalytic coating remaining active and effective. The façade maintained a consistent appearance, with no evident decline in performance.
The Self-Cleaning System reduces black mould, algae formation, and surface soiling through ongoing photocatalytic activity, helping maintain a cleaner appearance for longer. Combined with the ECOCLEAN Porosity Sealer, the system reduces moisture and contaminant ingress, supporting long-term façade stability and reducing maintenance requirements.
The result is a restored architectural finish that retains its appearance over time while extending the service life of the concrete surfaces.
